Group 2 Round 3: Awardees have been selected!

ARTisPHL is a competition for Philadelphia-based artists at all experience levels working in any medium. There will be three rounds, with awards at each round: Ideas, Impact, and Implementation.

On January 24, 2023, PHDC and the James L. Knight Foundation announced the three local Philadelphia artists selected to receive funding to implement their community-based public art ideas through the ARTisPHL program. Each of the three selected artists will receive an award of $30,000 to develop their project. To learn more about the finalist, hit the AWARDEES tab!

What is your idea for what engagement means today?

Public art enhances public space when it is accessible to and representative of the community where it resides. Exploring what engagement means, we hope to give a platform for new artist-led and community-focused creative ideas.

Ideas may be in any medium but should consider how people can interact with the work. Through this project, we hope to foster, showcase, and amplify artists’ ideas about the evolving role of public art in our city.

ARTisPHL Group 1 launched in July of 2020 during a period of unprecedented unrest. We heard from over 150 Philadelphia artists from around the city. Fifty eight awards were distributed over three rounds. For Group 2, we hope to reach, hear from, and support more artists working to shape and understand our new reality.
